Hydrocyanic Acid (CHN)

1. Also known as Prussic Acid and Hydrocyanic acid, Hydrogen Cyanide is of the solution:
Carbon
Hydrogen
Nitrogen

2. Hydrogen Cyanide is a colorless or pale blue liquid or gas with a bitter almond odor. It is toxic and highly flammable.

3. This substance is used to exterminate rodents, kill insects, and to help manufacture metal polishes.

4. Acute exposure to Hydrogen Cyanide may cause nausea, vomiting, respiratory tract irritation, and shortness of breath. Chronic exposure may cause eye irritation, conjunctivitis, and death.

5. Straight activated carbon has limited capacity for Hydrogen Cyanide. An appropriate special impregnated carbon is recommended for this exposure.
