Crotonal (C4H6O)
1. Also known as Crotonal and Crotonic Aldehyde, Crotonaldehyde is of the solution:

2. Crotonaldehyde is a clear, colorless to straw colored liquid with a strong, penetrating odor. It is highly flammable and gives of toxic fumes at room temperature.
3. Crotonaldehyde occurs naturally from the emissions of some vegetation and volcanoes. Some amounts of this substance can be found in certain foods.
4. Most commonly, Crotonaldehyde is used in the manufacturing of sorbic acid (yeast and mold inhibitor). It is also used as a warning agent in fuels and as a stabilizer for tetraethyl-lead.
5. Acute exposure to Crotonaldehyde may cause irritation to the nose, throat, lungs, stomach, and mouth. High levels of exposure may result in the build up of fluid in the lungs and result in death.
