Carbon Tetrachloride (CCl4)
1. Also known as Carbona and Carbon Tet, it is of the solution:
Carbon
Chloride
2. Carbon Tetrachloride is a highly volatile liquid with a strong ethereal odor. When heated, it emits toxic fumes of phosgene and hydrogen chloride and it is known to deplete the ozone layer.
3. Carbon Tetrachloride is produced for the use of manufacturing refrigerants and propellants, in addition to petroleum refining and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
4. Short-term exposure, such as inhalation can even cause death. However, most common effects of exposure to Carbon Tetrachloride are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and permanent nerve damage.
5. Austin Air filters have a high capacity for this particular substance and will adsorb the Carbon Tetrachloride sufficiently from the environment.
